1. Hello Im going to Shetland in September! Yes, I’ve been before (in fact used to live there). Taking my husband George with me this time (he has never been). We are travelling by train (from Shropshire AONB) and ferry. It’s not so bad. Scenery magnificent, both on journey and when we get there. (No, they do not wear sheepskins, and – they have all mod cons, maybe better than on the mainland! Yes, things are all of a high standard, the very best Council in the British Isles, and the most well-off one, because of the oil). We are staying in the Grand Hotel – the Tourist Board are looking after us so well. Super people up there. They are more Norwegan than Scottish. Well, the names are Norse. And they have their own language, but speak ‘proper’ whenever English people are about!!

   I’m going to learn the Guitar. I am also having my voice trained (friends will be pleased to know). And I am going to learn how to felting and do cartoons and caricatures – this is my Winter/Autumn programme at the Gateway, Shrewsbury. (this means a train journey, the buses go rambling about the narrow country lanes, and sometimes stick in the ditch if a large lorry comes the other way!! So I avoid them.) I have just passed a couple of modules with Open University (this is on top of my F.Ilex and TEFL). I did a few days work recently on some files in the local solicitors (I am really retired but am ‘on call’ still). She is a sole practitioner and at 76 will never retire (she does not knit, or anything, so would be at a loss to know what to do if she did!!) She does no go into Court because she has a temper and tears her hair and shouts at the Judge. So its just conveyancing and probate mostly, with other bits of advice and stuff.

   My friend is the sister- in- law of Lord John Biffen, who died yesterday. Well, she is related to, almost, absolutely everybody. She does not believe in God. She is a high-up Animal Rights person.
