Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Bill

At the Queen’s Speech on 4 June 2014, the Queen announced that the Small Business, Enterprise and Employment Bill will be introduced for debate in Parliament in the next session.

The Bill includes:-

  • Measures to strengthen employment law by tackling national minimum wage abuses and cracking down on abuse of zero-hours contracts;
  • a crack down on costly tribunal delays;
  • making childcare regulations more flexible to meet the needs of working families, and
  • ensure that any red tape that affects small businesses is reviewed regularly to ensure any regulations are either cut or remain effective.

In addition, the Queen also announced the Childcare Payments Bill which will introduce a new scheme to support working families by giving support equivalent to basic rate tax relief on money spent on childcare, up to a maximum of £2,000 per year for each child, to be launched in autumn 2015 and rolled out to all eligible families with children under 12 within the first year of the scheme’s operation.
