Converting civil partnerships to marriage

The Government has announced the position in relation to same-sex marriages for those already in a civil partnership following the enactment of the Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Act 2013.

From 10 December 2014, same-sex couples will be able to convert their civil partnerships to marriages by attending a register office and signing a declaration that they wish to be married in front of a registrar.

Note that civil partnerships will continue to be available to same-sex couples but remain barred for opposite-sex couples following public consultation.
