Due to the undue pressure forced upon me by Alison, who has been reasearching her own family history for the past few months (and discovering that she is possibly related to Anne Boleyn of Henry VIII fame), I have succumbed to the alure of researching the Wilks’ family tree.
To be fair, Alison is not the only person to blame for all this. Rachel has been busy researching her own family tree, and has thus influenced me to do mine as well. She can be very persuasive when she wants to be, particularly by saying things like “it’ll be good for our kids” blah blah blah. The final straw, nonetheless, is when my father asked me today to see what I can dig up on the internet about Hector Octavius Wilks.
So, here we have it. A new hobby for me! I have to admit it’s starting to be a little addictive, and I’ve gone back as far as Thomas Wilks’, my great great grandfather, who was born in Newport, and had a rather large household: his wife, Margaret, and 7 children, and two servants! Cripes! I wonder what else I will find.
